Kathmandu: A meeting of the ruling coalition parties held this evening is set to determine the allocation of seats for the upcoming National Assembly (NA) elections. The discussions, attended by top leaders of the ruling alliance, took place at the official residence of Prime Minister in Baluwatar.

NC leader Ramesh Lekhak informed that the meeting at Baluwatar led to an agreement to finalize the seat allocation in the subsequent evening session. A meeting involving the four major political parties was scheduled for 4:00 pm, followed by the alliance member parties' meeting at 5:00 pm.

The discussions also delved into coordinating with the main opposition party, CPN (UML). Lekhak revealed that the ruling alliance considered the NA elections after the CPN (UML) announced its intention to field candidates for all vacant positions in the elections. As a response to this announcement, the alliance parties decided to participate in the NA election, allocating seats among themselves.

Although there were discussions about involving opposition parties in the National Assembly as a broader democratic practice, Lekhak noted that it was not feasible at the moment.

The meeting at Baluwatar was attended by Prime Minister and CPN (Maoist Centre) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda,' NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN (Unified Socialist) Chair Madhav Kumar Nepal, and other prominent leaders. The NA elections are scheduled for January 25.
